Short Domain Abbreviations
There are tons of different short domain abbreviations out there. Every domainer should know what the different acronyms/abbreviations mean when people are discussing these short domain names. Many of you may browse around different domain forums or websites and hear terms like “CVCV.com” or “Quad Premium.” You may be wondering what these different “domain slang” acronyms actually mean. When someone posts a forum thread titled “Quad Premium CVCV.com For Sale” it doesn’t actually mean the domain CVCV.com is for sale. It actually means the domain for sale is a .COM, consists of four letters (Quad), all of which are premium letters (Premium), and in the format of Consonant Vowel Consonant Vowel (CVCV).
Before jumping into all those different abbreviations, let’s first discuss the difference between a Premium and Non-Premium letter/number. As everyone could guess, some letters and numbers are more popular than others. Some letters (such as “G”) are found in more words inside the English dictionary than other letters (such as “Z”). This gives them a premium status. In English, there are 21 consonants (B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, Q, R, S, T, V, W, X, Y and Z) and 5 vowels (A, E, I, O and U). Some people consider Y to be a vowel (sometimes) and in those cases there would be 6 vowels and 20 consonants.
Vowels: A, E, I, O and U
Premium Letters: B, C, D, F, G, H, L, M, N, P, R, S and T
Non-Premium Letters: J, K, Q, V, W, X, Y and Z
Keep in mind, all vowels are also considered “premium” aside from U (and Y if you count it as a vowel).
Premium Numbers: 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9
Non-Premium Numbers: 0, 4, 6
You should study and know all vowels, premium and non-premium letters, especially if you plan on doing allot with buying/selling short domains. Premium short domains will almost always sell for more money than non-premium short domains. Once you have those memorized you can move onto the different acronyms for short domains. I’ve listed the most popular ones below for you to look over and memorize.

Remember, the extension doesn’t matter in terms of these abbreviations. LLL means the same thing no matter what the extension is. If you see a domain advertised as an LLL.org, it’s a three letter .ORG just as if it were a three letter .COM (LLL.com). Hopefully this post has helped some of you understand exactly what these different domain acronyms actually stand for.
